Apple TV Requirements

System Requirements:

Active MLS LIVE subscription (for access to match video).

Apple iTunes Account.

Supported Device Models: Apple TV 2 and 3 device models.

Operating System: The most recent version; check your Apple TV device for system updates. (To run software updates manually, launch the Apple TV's Settings, go to "General" and select "Software Updates.")

Software: The most recent version of the MLS app. (The most recent version of the app should automatically appear on your home screen.)

Bandwidth: Dedicated connection of 3000 Kbps.

Territories: US, Worldwide in applicable iTunes territory stores, check your iTunes store for availability.

Getting Started

  1. Start your console/system and sign in to your Apple iTunes account.
  2. Find the MLS app on the home screen and select the app to open.
  3. When the app is launched, you will be taken to the MLS app main menu.

How to Log In

To watch Live and archived matches and condensed highlights, you will need to sign in to your MLS LIVE account linked with an active subscription. In the MLS app global navigation, navigate to the "Settings" option and then select the "Log In" item. You can sign in with your MLS LIVE credentials to access your subscription.

If you purchased a subscription through the Apple iTunes App Store, select the "Already purchased through iTunes? Restore" option and enter your iTunes information to connect your subscription to your device.

If you have an active subscription that was not purchased through the iTunes App Store, select the "Existing users-sign in" option. Enter your MLS LIVE account credentials to access your subscription.

On the Apple TV remote, the button at the center of the directional wheel is the "Select" button. Use this button throughout navigation to select any highlighted option. Use the "Menu" button on your controller at any time to go back to the previous page, or to exit the app from the MLS app main menu. When logged into your registered MLS LIVE account, the top navigation menu will show "Matches," "Channels," "Clubs," "Standings" and "Settings" options.

Selecting "Matches" will display a list of matches by week. Press the "Up" and "Down" buttons to scroll through the matches, or highlight the timeframe at top and use the "Left" and "Right" buttons to navigate to the previous or next timeframe. The "Channels" option in the main menu will display the most popular MLS video clips. Select the "Clubs" menu option to choose an individual club and view videos for that specific team only. Select the "Standings" menu option to view standings by conference. Select the "Settings" option to further customize your MLS experience.

Opening the "Settings" menu will display options to "Hide Scores," view "Favorite Teams," or to view the "Terms of Service" and "Privacy Policy." Click the "Select" button over the "Hide Scores" option to turn match spoilers "On" or "Off." Select "Terms of Service" or "Privacy Policy" to view legal information, and use the "Up" and "Down" arrows to scroll through the agreements.

To view video associated with a specific match, navigate to the desired match in the "Matches" screen. Press the "Select" button and you will see a list of available match feed options. Choose the desired feed and the match will load.

In-Match Navigation

While viewing a match on your Apple TV device, use the playback controls on your Apple TV remote to control DVR options. Tapping "Play/Pause" or using the "Left" and "Right" buttons will control basic playback functionality. Pressing the "Up" button on your remote will display the playback time indicator or "scrubbing bar," showing your current location in the video and any movement actions. Tapping the "Up" button twice in succession during video playback will bring up match information for the current video at the top of the screen. When this information is being shown, holding the "Select" button down for 2-4 seconds will open up a menu of additional audio preference options. There are three tabs in the Audio Options menu: "Subtitles," "Audio" and "Speakers." Use the directional arrows to navigate through the menu. Under "Subtitles," you can adjust Closed Captioning preferences; choose "Off," "Auto" (on when available), or "CC" (On). The "Audio" tab will show additional audio feed options when available, and the "Speakers" option will allow you to pair your Apple TV device with supported speakers for match audio playback to be sent to an external speaker system.

Apple TV Requirements

Operating System: The most recent version; check your Apple TV device for system updates. (To run software updates manually, launch the Apple TV's Settings, go to "General" and select "Software Updates.")

Software: The most recent version of the MLS app. (Once installed, the MLS app automatically updates itself to the latest version.)

Bandwidth: Dedicated connection of 3000 Kbps.

Territories: US, Worldwide in applicable iTunes territory stores, check your iTunes store for availability.

Getting Started

  1. Start your console/system and sign in to your Apple iTunes account.
  2. Open the App Store icon, search for, download and install the MLS app.
  3. Once the download and install has completed, open the MLS app.
  4. When the app is launched, you will be taken to the MLS app Matches screen.

How to Log In

To watch Live and archived matches and condensed highlights, you will need to sign in to your MLS LIVE account linked with an active subscription. When opening the MLS app for the first time, you will be presented with options to Log In or Restore a Purchase from iTunes.

If you have an active subscription that was not purchased through the iTunes App Store, select the "Existing users-sign in" option. Enter your MLS LIVE account credentials and you will be redirected back to the MLS app main menu. 

If you purchased a subscription through the Apple iTunes App Store, select the "Already purchased through iTunes? Restore" option and enter your information to link your purchase with your MLS account.

You can also choose to skip Log In if you would like to do so at a different time. Upon first-time use, the App will also show options to select Favorite and Followed Teams and will ask if you prefer to show or hide match scores and spoilers. 

On your Apple TV, launch MLS LIVE by selecting the MLS App in the listing of apps on the home screen.

In the main menu, you can use the swipe touchpad or the directional arrows to navigate through the current day's matches. Selecting the date at the top of the page opens up the full monthly calendar of matches. Selecting either arrow next to that date will navigate to the previous or next day's matches. In the calendar view, these arrows will enable navigation to the schedule for the previous or next month. Once you have highlighted the match that you would like to watch, press the select button or click on the remote's touchpad for available viewing options. Select the match feed that you would like to watch or listen to.

Swiping up on your Apple TV remote's touchpad while in the main menu will display "Video" and "Settings" tabs at the top of the screen. Select Video to view the most popular MLS clips. Under the Settings menu, you can sign into or out of your account, choose to show or hide scores, choose whether to watch a live match from the start or join live action, and add, remove and sort your favorite and followed teams. 

In-Match Navigation

After launching the match, you can use your Apple TV remote's touchpad for DVR controls in archived matches. Pause the match and swipe to scroll, pressing down to stop at the point of the match at which you would like to join. Press menu to bring up the match selector to switch to a different match and match feed.

While viewing a match, swipe down on your Apple TV remote to display Closed Captioning options or to seamlessly switch to an alternate match feed without exiting the match. 

Chromecast Requirements

The MLS mobile app supports the ability to cast live and archived MLS LIVE content to a Chromecast device.

System Requirements: Active MLS LIVE subscription (for full matches).

Cast Requirements: Both your Chromecast and mobile device MUST be connected to the same WiFi network to utilize this feature. Also, ensure both your mobile and Chromecast device have the latest software.

Supported Device Models: All Chromecast models.

iOS devices running iOS 9.3 or newer or Android devices running Android 4.4 or newer.

Firmware: The most recent firmware version; check your Chromecast device for system updates.

Software: The most recent version of the MLS mobile app on your compatible mobile device. (While Google Play Services will be updated automatically for most devices, you may need to manually apply the updates from the Play Store [My Apps] section. If your Chromecast has not updated to the latest firmware, please leave your Chromecast powered on overnight. The firmware build will be pushed and the device will reboot itself when it has the new firmware. For iOS, updates can be installed from the MLS app page in the iTunes App Store.)

Getting Started

  1. Download and install the MLS app on your supported Android or iOS device.
  2. When prompted, sign in to your MLS LIVE account, or purchase a subscription on the web.
  3. Start your Chromecast device.
  4. Connect both the Chromecast device and your mobile device to the same local WiFi network.

NOTE: Both your Chromecast and mobile device MUST be connected to the same WiFi network to utilize this feature. Also, ensure both your mobile device and Chromecast device have the latest software.

Viewing/Navigation

How to Cast from iOS Devices: Casting MLS LIVE to a Chromecast device can be controlled by tapping on the Chromecast icon within the MLS® application in the upper left of the application or while viewing a feed.

How to Cast from Android Devices: Casting MLS LIVE to a Chromecast device can be controlled by tapping on the Chromecast icon in the upper right of the MLS® application or while viewing a feed.

In-match Navigation (for Live and Archived matches):

While casting a live match, your mobile device will serve as a remote control for the connected Chromecast device. While video plays on your Chromecast connected display, your mobile device will show the Chromecast remote controls "-10", which rewinds video playback by 10 seconds, "Play/Pause", and "CC", which enables or disables closed captioning.

Roku Requirements

System Requirements:

Active MLS LIVE subscription (for full matches).

Roku Account.

Supported Device Models: Roku 2 or newer.

Operating System: The most recent operating system version; check your Roku device for system updates. (To ensure your Roku TV model or Roku player has the latest firmware, go to settings, then system, then system update, to check for an available system update.)

Software: The most recent version of the MLS app. (Running manual system updates will also update the MLS app if an update is available.)

Bandwidth: Dedicated connection of 3000 Kbps.

Territories: US, Canada.

Getting Started

  1. Power on your Roku device.
  2. If prompted, sign in and/or link your device to your Roku account.
  3. Navigate to the Channel Store in your Roku player.
  4. Look for MLS LIVE in the suggested apps, or search for MLS LIVE.
  5. Download and install the MLS LIVE channel on your device. Once completed, the channel will appear in your Roku Home screen.
  6. Launch the MLS LIVE app.

How to Log In

To watch live and archived matches and condensed highlights, you will need to sign in with your registered MLS LIVE account email linked with an active subscription.

When on the "Matches" or "Standings" screens press the Options (*Star) button on your Roku remote to access the "Account" section. Navigate to "Log in" and enter your MLS LIVE account credentials. Select "Log In" when you are done, and you will be signed in to your MLS LIVE account.

Select the "Matches" tile in the main menu to open up a list of all matches by date. Here, you can use the arrow keys to scroll through matches, moving left or right to the previous or next day. Selecting the "Standings" item will open up the full MLS standings.

In the MLS app "Matches" or "Standings" screens, the Options (*Star) button opens the "Account" menu. Account options include "How to Purchase MLS LIVE," an option to show or "Hide Scores" and the ability to "Log In" or out of your account. When signed into your account, the Log In option will read "Log Out."

To launch a match video stream, navigate to the desired match on the "Matches" screen. Press "OK" and you will see a list of available match feed options. Press "OK" over the selected option to launch the match feed.

In-Match Navigation

While viewing a match on your Roku device, use the controls on your Roku remote for DVR functionality. You can use the DVR buttons to "Rewind," "Play/Pause," or "Fast Forward," or you can go back 10 seconds by pressing the Instant Replay loop back button. As in the menu, press the "Back" button to return to the previous screen, or press the "Home" button on your controller to return to the Roku home screen.

You can also access the "Closed Caption/Audio Configuration" menu while watching a video by pressing the "Options" (*Star) button on your controller. Enable or disable Closed Captioning settings under "Caption Mode" by pressing "OK" to click through available options. Choose from alternate audio selections by pressing "OK" over this option, when available. Select the cancel option to exit and return to the video feed.
